What it does
Doctor's companion is a partner variant that lets you build a two-commander deck pairing one creature with the "Doctor's companion" ability alongside a legendary Time Lord Doctor. Both go in your command zone as your commanders, and your color identity combines both cards—a common way to access extra colors.
The key restriction people miss: a Doctor's companion can only pair with a Doctor, not with another companion or a regular Partner card. Likewise, your Doctor must be a Time Lord Doctor specifically; other legendary creatures don't qualify. It's a closed pairing system, distinct from regular Partner even though it functions identically in the command zone.
In Commander, this matters for deckbuilding flexibility and commander damage—either commander can deal 21 lethal commander damage independently, and both contribute to your strategy and color access from turn one.
