What it does

Ravenous appears on certain X-cost creatures (like Huge Trove or the cards from Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate). It means: "If X is 5 or more, draw a card when this creature enters the battlefield." So you're rewarded for casting these creatures with a big X value—you get the creature plus a card. The nuance people miss: the threshold is based on the value of X you actually paid, not the creature's final power or any modifications afterward. Reducing the cost of the spell doesn't change X—if you cast it with X=5 but used cost reducers, it still counts as X=5 and you still draw. Conversely, only paying enough for X=4 won't trigger it, even if the creature ends up huge. In Commander, where you have plenty of mana late-game, Ravenous creatures often reliably hit the threshold, making them efficient as both a body and card advantage. Plan to pump X past 5 when possible.
