What it does
Transfigure is an activated ability found on certain creatures, written as "Transfigure [cost]." You pay the cost and sacrifice that creature, then search your library for a creature card with the same mana value as the sacrificed creature, put it into your hand, and shuffle. It can only be activated at sorcery speed (any time you could cast a sorcery).
The most common mistake is expecting the new creature to enter the battlefield—it goes to your hand, not into play. You still have to cast it normally afterward, paying its full cost. Also note you're matching mana value, not converting based on power or anything else.
In Commander, Transfigure is a slow tutor that doubles as sacrifice fodder, letting you trade a small creature for a needed answer. It's niche but works nicely with death triggers, recursion, or when you want to find a specific same-cost threat.
