What it does
Valiant is a triggered ability that fires the first time each turn a creature with Valiant becomes targeted by a spell or ability you control. When that happens, you get the listed bonus—often a temporary buff, a token, or a counter. It rewards you for "pointing" your own effects at the creature, like a combat trick, a pump aura's ETB, or a tapping ability.
The big nuance: it only triggers on the first target each turn, and only from spells/abilities you control. Opponents targeting your creature won't set it off, and a spell targeting it multiple times still only triggers Valiant once per turn. Targeting it again later that turn does nothing extra.
In Commander, Valiant shines with cheap, repeatable targeting—pingers, untap effects, or protective spells. Build around reliably touching your Valiant creature each turn to stack value over a long game.
