As this land enters, you may pay 2 life. If you don't, it enters tapped.
Why is this card good?
Stomping Ground is a premium dual land for any Gruul (or Gruul-containing) deck, and its #68 EDHREC rank reflects how universally it slots in. The reason it's so strong is the combination of typing and flexibility: it's both a Mountain and a Forest, so it fetches with Wooded Foothills, Wood Elves, Skyshroud Claim, Farseek, and similar effects — turning your ramp into perfect fixing.
The "pay 2 life or enter tapped" clause is the key strength. In Commander, where life totals start at 40, you almost always pay the life to keep tempo, but having the option to enter tapped when life-constrained (against aggressive or aristocrats decks) is genuinely useful.
Play it in essentially any two-or-more-color deck with red and green. The only reason to skip it: budget concerns (it's pricey), or a mono-color deck where it does nothing extra over a basic. Otherwise it's a near-auto-include for consistent, untapped fixing.
