Whenever another nontoken permanent you control leaves the battlefield, choose one that hasn't been chosen this turn. Create a creature token with those characteristics.
• 2/2 white Fox with vigilance.
• 1/2 blue Moonfolk with flying.
• 1/1 black Rat with lifelink.
: Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.
Genku turns your nontoken permanents leaving the battlefield into a steady stream of tokens—up to three per turn (a vigilant Fox, a flying Moonfolk, and a lifelinking Rat). You churn permanents with blink, bounce, sacrifice, and fetch-style effects to flood the board, then activate Genku's pump to turn that wide board into a lethal anthem-style attack.
Generates value from any permanent leaving play—lands, artifacts, enchantments, and creatures all trigger it
Built-in board-wide finisher with the +1/+1 counter activation that scales with your token count
Resilient go-wide plan that rebuilds quickly after a board wipe since dying nontokens make new tokens
Token bodies cover all three keyword roles (defense via vigilance, evasion via flying, life gain via lifelink)
Excellent synergy with blink and self-bounce effects that are abundant and cheap in UW
Tokens disappear value-wise—only nontoken permanents trigger Genku, so the board can't snowball off its own tokens
Three-token-per-turn cap limits raw explosiveness compared to dedicated token decks
UW lacks reliable repeatable sacrifice outlets and recursion, so feeding Genku takes deliberate building
Slow to close without the mana-hungry pump activation; vulnerable to interaction on Genku himself
Weak to graveyard/exile removal and counterspell-heavy control mirrors
Generates the heavy mana you need to spam Genku's pump and cast blink enablers.
Add more free or cheap repeatable blink and self-bounce outlets (Conjurer's Closet, Cloudstone Curio, Eldrazi Displacer) so every turn reliably hits the three-token cap, and lean into mana rocks plus Smothering Tithe to fund repeated pump activations. Include strong anthems (Intangible Virtue, Anointed Procession effects don't multiply tokens but pumps do) and a couple of protective counterspells to shield Genku. To push toward cEDH-adjacent power, build around Cloudstone Curio bounce loops or Brago lock pieces to convert the token engine into a decisive, fast finish.
