Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury
The Commander
Flying
Whenever a Dragon you control attacks, creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.
Dash (You may cast this spell for its dash cost. If you do, it gains haste, and it's returned from the battlefield to its owner's hand at the beginning of the next end step.)
Guide
Gameplan
Assemble a tribal Dragon board and swing wide with evasive fliers, using Kolaghan's attack trigger to pump the whole team for explosive damage. You ramp into Dragons, apply aggressive pressure, and use Dash to dodge sorcery-speed removal while keeping the beats coming. Most games end through repeated alpha strikes that snowball as more Dragons attack.
Strengths
- Strong aggressive curve with reliable evasion from flying Dragons
- Kolaghan's anthem effect scales hard on a wide attacking board
- Dash lets her dodge removal and apply pressure even when the board is unstable
- Rakdos has excellent removal and Dragon support
Weaknesses
- Anthem only triggers off Dragons attacking, so non-Dragon decks get less value
- Vulnerable to board wipes given the aggressive go-wide plan
- Lacks card advantage engines outside of Dragon-specific tutors
- No built-in lifegain or protection makes the deck soft to faster combo/control
Key Cards
- Dragon Tempest — Gives all your Dragons haste and pings the table when they enter, accelerating the aggro plan.
- Scourge of Valkas — Turns every Dragon entering or attacking into direct damage, providing a reach-based win condition.
- Crucible of Fire — A second anthem that stacks with Kolaghan to turn your Dragons into massive threats.
- Sarkhan, Fireblood — Card advantage and ramp tied directly to your Dragon density.
- Terror of the Peaks — Punishes the table whenever a Dragon enters and pressures opponents' boards.
- Temur Ascendancy — Haste plus a card every time a big Dragon enters keeps your hand full.
Upgrade Path
Add more efficient Dragon ramp and tutors (Dragonlord's Servant, Igneous Cur effects, Dragon's Hoard, Drakuseth alternatives) and top-end bombs like Utvara Hellkite and Old Gnawbone to snowball mana and bodies. Improve interaction with Rakdos staples (Terminate, Bedevil, Dockside-style ramp) and protect your board with Heroic Intervention-style effects. Tighten the curve and add fast mana (Sol Ring, Ancient Tomb, signets) so you can deploy threats ahead of the table.
