Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate
The Commander
First strike
Whenever Alesha attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Raid — At the beginning of your end step, if you attacked this turn, return target creature card with mana value less than or equal to Alesha's power from your graveyard to the battlefield.
Guide
Gameplan
Attack with Alesha every turn to stack +1/+1 counters, growing her power so your end-step Raid trigger reanimates progressively bigger threats from the graveyard. Fill the yard early via discard, looting, and sacrifice, then loop value creatures and beat down while rebuilding your board for free each combat.
Strengths
- Free reanimation every turn with no mana cost, scaling as Alesha grows
- Built-in evasion-ish resilience via first strike and a self-growing body
- Reanimates creatures of any color as long as MV fits her power
- Synergizes with ETB/death value creatures for repeatable advantage
Weaknesses
- Reanimation is gated by Alesha's power, so small power early limits targets
- Requires attacking each turn, exposing her to combat tricks and removal
- Heavily commander-dependent; loses tempo to repeated wipes or exile
- No card draw or ramp in the text, can run out of gas if graveyard is empty
Key Cards
- Anguished Unmaking — Clean removal for problem permanents that Alesha can't fight through.
- Faithless Looting — Cheap way to dig and dump fat reanimation targets into the graveyard.
- Buried Alive — Tutors three creatures straight to the yard to set up Raid targets immediately.
- Sun Titan — Once Alesha hits 6 power, reanimating it loops cheap permanents for huge value.
- Skullclamp — Turns small reanimated tokens and bodies into a relentless card-draw engine.
- Phyrexian Reclamation — Recurs creatures to hand and refills the yard to keep Raid online.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and protection (Sol Ring, Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots) so Alesha attacks safely and early. Lean into a dedicated reanimation package with self-mill and tutors (Entomb, Buried Alive, Final Parting) plus payoff creatures whose MV scales with her power. Tighten the curve with cheap aristocrat outlets (Viscera Seer, Ashnod's Altar) and Blood Artist effects to convert each loop into inevitable damage.
