Why is this card good?
Blood Artist is the foundational aristocrats payoff — it turns every creature death into a point of drain, scaling automatically in a 4-player game where bodies are constantly dying.
Why it's great: in Commander you have three opponents, so a single board wipe with Blood Artist out can swing 10-20 life across the table. It triggers on any creature dying, including opponents' — so it punishes wraths even when they aren't yours. Pair it with sacrifice outlets (Viscera Seer, Ashnod's Altar), token generators, and recursion loops for incremental or outright lethal drain.
Best homes: any aristocrats or sacrifice deck — Teysa Karlov (doubles the trigger!), Meren, Yawgmoth, Korvold, Marchesa. It's also a fine include in token decks running Skullclamp or fling-style sacrifice engines.
When to skip it: voltron, spellslinger, big-mana ramp, or any deck without consistent creature death. One trigger per turn isn't worth a slot if your board rarely dies. It also dies easily, so don't rely on it alone — run the redundant pieces (Zulaport Cutthroat, Bastion of Remembrance).
