The Peregrine Dynamo
The Commander
Haste
,
: Copy target activated or triggered ability you control from another legendary source that's not a commander. You may choose new targets for the copy. (Mana abilities can't be targeted.)
Guide
Gameplan
Cast The Peregrine Dynamo turn 3 and use its haste to start copying powerful activated and triggered abilities from your legendary permanents, effectively doubling planeswalker activations, legendary creature ETBs/attack triggers, and artifact/Saga abilities. You build a board of impactful legendaries, then chain copies to snowball value and resources until you assemble a lethal or game-locking engine.
Strengths
- Colorless commander fits any deck and any artifact ramp shell, making it splashable and consistent
- Doubles a huge range of abilities — planeswalker loyalty activations, legendary ETB/attack triggers, Saga chapters, and artifact taps
- Cheap to cast (3 MV) with haste, so it comes online immediately
- Synergizes with the dense pool of powerful legendary permanents the format offers
Weaknesses
- Dies to any removal and has no protection of its own, halting the whole engine
- Requires a critical mass of legendary sources to do anything — weak in a vacuum
- Costs
plus a tap per copy, so it only copies one ability per turn without untap support
- Can't copy commanders' abilities or mana abilities, narrowing the targets
Key Cards
- Urza, Lord High Artificer — His construct token and tap-for-mana plus the deck-dig activation are prime copy targets in an artifact shell.
- Karn, the Great Creator — Copying his ability to fetch artifacts from outside the game gives explosive tutoring power.
- Kozilek, the Great Distortion — As a legendary source, copying its draw/discard trigger refills your hand massively.
- Sword of the Animist — A legendary-friendly engine; copying ramp and equip triggers accelerates your board.
- Thespian's Stage — Combos with legendary lands like Dark Depths to enable activated-ability shenanigans worth copying.
- Voltaic Construct — Untaps an artifact for
, enabling extra Dynamo activations to copy abilities multiple times per turn.
Upgrade Path
Add untap enablers like Voltaic Construct, Manifold Key, and Aphetto Alchemist to copy multiple abilities per turn, and lean into fast colorless ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Grim Monolith) to deploy Dynamo and legendaries early. Tighten the legendary count so you always have strong copy targets, and include protection like Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots to keep the engine alive against removal.

- Eldrazi/Stompy — Copying the cast/ETB triggers of colorless legendary Eldrazi titans overwhelms opponents with value and bodies.
