What it does
Behold lets a spell or ability ask you to reveal a creature card of a specific type (or matching some criteria) from your hand, or sometimes to point to one you control on the battlefield. Doing so "unlocks" an extra benefit—reduced cost, bonus effect, or additional value—without actually committing that card to play.
The nuance people miss: beholding from your hand only reveals the card; it stays in your hand and isn't tapped, sacrificed, or spent. You're proving you have it, not using it. You can also satisfy "behold" with a creature you already control on the battlefield, so you don't always need one in hand. Note it specifically cares about the card's printed/current type, like "behold a Dragon."
In Commander, behold rewards tribal and type-focused decks, giving steady incremental upgrades while keeping your threats in reserve.
