What it does
Gift is a newer mechanic where you offer an opponent something—a benefit like a card, a Treasure, or a tapped Food—as part of casting a spell or attacking. You choose an opponent when the spell goes on the stack (or as the creature attacks); if you do, that player receives the gift, and you usually get an enhanced effect in return. The "gift" text reads "Gift a [thing]" and is optional each time.
The big nuance: gifting is a choice you make as you cast or attack, not a cost—you're not paying anything, you're giving your opponent a small bonus to unlock a stronger version of your spell. The opponent doesn't choose whether to accept; they just get it.
In Commander, the political angle matters: gifting a Treasure or card to one opponent can curry favor or steer threat assessment, while still netting you value. Pick whom you gift carefully—you're empowering someone at the multiplayer table.
