What it does
Heroic is a triggered ability found on certain creatures (mostly from Theros block) that triggers "whenever you cast a spell that targets this creature." The benefit varies—often a +1/+1 counter, a token, or some other bonus.
The biggest nuance: only casting a spell counts. Abilities that target (like equipment moving or activated abilities) won't trigger Heroic—it has to be a spell, and you have to be the one casting it. Also, the spell just needs to target the creature; it doesn't need to resolve or even affect it. You can target your own Heroic creature with a removal spell or a buff, and the trigger still happens on cast. Multiple targets on one spell only trigger Heroic once per spell.
In Commander, Heroic rewards spell-slinging and aura/pump strategies, but it's slower and more fragile than modern alternatives, so it's mostly a budget or theme-deck consideration rather than a powerhouse mechanic.
