What it does
Meld is a mechanic that combines two specific cards into a single, double-faced permanent. Each meld pair has one card telling you which partner it melds with; when the listed condition is met (often a triggered ability), you exile both cards and return them joined together on their meld side, forming one larger permanent with combined stats and abilities.
The big nuance: both halves must be cards you own and control, and they must be on the battlefield (or sometimes from other zones, depending on the card). If the meld is interrupted or only one piece is present, nothing happens. While melded, it's a single object—removing it sends both cards to the graveyard, and it can't be split back apart by normal means.
In Commander, meld pairs like Bruna/Gisela are flashy but fragile—a single removal spell answers your whole investment, so protect the combined creature or rebuild carefully.
