What it does
Saddle is an ability found on Mount creatures (introduced in Outlaws of Thunder Junction). To saddle, you tap any number of other untapped creatures you control whose total power equals or exceeds the saddle number (e.g., "Saddle 3"). This is an activated ability you can use any time you could cast a sorcery, and it stays "saddled" until end of turn, unlocking a bonus—usually only relevant when the Mount attacks.
The biggest misconception: saddling doesn't tap the Mount itself, and it isn't tied to attacking like Crew on Vehicles being tied to nothing—you can saddle at instant... no, actually only at sorcery speed. Also, saddled status only matters if the Mount attacks that turn; if it doesn't attack, the bonus simply doesn't trigger.
In Commander, saddle synergizes with go-wide tokens (lots of small creatures to tap) and works even if those creatures are summoning-sick, since tapping for saddle isn't an attack or tap-for-mana ability.
