Why is this card good?
Birds of Paradise is the gold standard of one-mana ramp, and its any-color fixing is what separates it from cheaper alternatives like Llanowar Elves.
Why it's great:
- Turn-one Birds accelerates you a full turn ahead and fixes every color in your deck — huge in three-, four-, or five-color builds where mana consistency is the bottleneck.
- It's a creature, so it benefits from green's deep toolbox: convoke, untap effects (Seedborn Muse), sacrifice fodder for aristocrats, and tutors like Birthing Pod or Chord of Calling.
- The flying body even chips in or blocks evasive threats in a pinch.
Who wants it: basically any green deck, but especially multicolor, combo, and ramp-heavy lists that need early acceleration into commanders.
When to skip it: mono-green or two-color decks where color fixing is irrelevant — there, cheaper dorks like Elvish Mystic do the same job. It also dies to every board wipe and removal spell, so spellslinger or wrath-heavy metas may prefer rock-based ramp (Signets, Arcane Signet).
