Why is this card good?

Breeding Pool is premium Simic fixing — and one of the best lands you can run in any GU deck. The reason shock lands are so good in Commander is the flexibility: pay 2 life to come in untapped when you need the tempo (turn-one ramp, holding up interaction), or take it slow and enter tapped on turns where life matters more. In a 40-life format, that 2 life is almost always trivial. Its real value comes from typing. Being a Forest Island means it fetches with Misty Rainforest, Flooded Strand, Farseek, etc., and it counts for typal payoffs and domain. That synergy makes it strictly better than tapped duals and gives it a huge edge over basic-only fixing. Who wants it: literally any deck with green and blue in its identity — ramp, control, value/draw-go, lands matters, you name it. When to skip it: budget builds (it's pricey), or mono-color decks. The life loss is a non-issue unless you're facing aggressive life-payment stacking.

    Unlike most dual lands, this land has two basic land types. It's not basic, so cards such as District Guide can't find it, but it does have the appropriate land types for effects such as that of Drowned Catacomb (from the Ixalan set).
