Atraxa, Praetors' Voice
The Commander
Flying, vigilance, deathtouch, lifelink
At the beginning of your end step, proliferate. (Choose any number of permanents and/or players, then give each another counter of each kind already there.)
Guide
Gameplan
Atraxa is a 4-color value engine that snowballs any kind of counter—+1/+1, loyalty, charge, poison, even -1/-1—via her end-step proliferate. You ramp into her on turn 4, then build an engine around a counter theme (planeswalkers, infect, +1/+1, or superfriends) and let proliferate multiply your advantage every turn until you overwhelm the table.
Strengths
- Access to all four colors except red gives unmatched card quality, removal, and tutors
- Proliferate turns any counter-based engine into exponential snowballing value
- Evasive 4/4 with vigilance, deathtouch, and lifelink is a great blocker and beater on its own
- Extremely flexible—supports many distinct counter-themed builds
Weaknesses
- Heavy target on the table; everyone fears the proliferate engine
- Four-color mana base can be greedy and needs strong fixing
- Many builds are slow to close games and rely on Atraxa sticking around
- Vulnerable to board wipes and counter-removal effects like proliferate hate or graveyard exile
Key Cards
- Doubling Season — Doubles counters and tokens, supercharging planeswalkers and +1/+1 strategies alongside proliferate.
- Deepglow Skate — Doubles all counters on permanents you choose, instantly ultimating planeswalkers or pumping infect.
- Inexorable Tide — Proliferates whenever you cast a spell, dramatically accelerating any counter engine.
- Carth the Lion — Adds loyalty to your planeswalkers each turn and tutors them, perfect for a superfriends shell.
- Evolution Sage — Proliferates on every land drop, giving repeated free triggers throughout the turn.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the mana base with fetchlands, duals, and Triomes plus mana rocks like Arcane Signet and Fellwar Stone so Atraxa lands reliably on curve. Add more proliferate density (Flux Channeler, Tezzeret's Gambit) and counter doublers, then pick a focused win package—either a planeswalker ultimate suite or a compact infect/poison core—rather than spreading thin across themes. Include protection like Heroic Intervention and Teferi's Protection to defend your engine from wipes.
