Klothys, God of Destiny
The Commander
Indestructible
As long as your devotion to red and green is less than seven, Klothys isn't a creature.
At the beginning of your first main phase, exile target card from a graveyard. If it was a land card, add or
. Otherwise, you gain 2 life and Klothys deals 2 damage to each opponent.
Guide
Gameplan
Klothys is a resilient, low-cost engine that grinds value every turn by exiling cards from graveyards for ramp or for a Drain-style life swing. You build a high-devotion red/green board so she flips into a 4/5 indestructible attacker, while leaning on aggressive midrange creatures and graveyard hate to slowly bleed opponents out. The deck wins through repeated incidental damage, big stompy threats, and denying recursion-based strategies their fuel.
Strengths
- Indestructible commander that dodges most removal and is cheap to recast
- Provides free ramp or 2 damage/2 life every single turn with zero card investment
- Doubles as efficient, color-hosed graveyard hate against reanimator and aristocrats
- High devotion in mono-ish RG decks turns her into a recurring beater
Weaknesses
- Can struggle if all graveyards are empty, shutting off the trigger
- No card advantage or draw built into the commander herself
- Exile-only removal and bounce of devotion enablers can keep her a non-creature
- Lacks evasion and a clean closing combo, so games can stall in the late grind
Key Cards
- Purphoros, God of the Forge — Stacks red devotion while turning your token and creature drops into extra reach damage.
- Anje's Ravager — Aggressive devotion piece that refills your hand, feeding the grindy midrange plan.
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Adds devotion and ramps off your spells to power out threats ahead of curve.
- Underworld Breach — Lets you exploit your own graveyard for explosive turns, synergizing with Klothys's exile theme.
- Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx — Converts heavy RG devotion into a flood of mana to deploy multiple bombs.
- Xenagos, God of Revels — More devotion plus a way to double power and grant haste for lethal swings.
Upgrade Path
Add more efficient devotion-dense permanents and fast mana (Ragavan, Esika's Chariot, mana dorks) to flip Klothys reliably and ramp into bombs. Lean into incidental damage payoffs like Purphoros and Torbran to make every trigger and token matter, and include card-advantage engines (Outpost Siege, Sylvan Library) since the commander provides none. Tighten removal toward exile-based answers and consider a compact closing package like Underworld Breach plus burn to avoid grindy stalls.
