Kuja, Genome Sorcerer // Trance Kuja, Fate Defied
The Commander
At the beginning of your end step, create a tapped 0/1 black Wizard creature token with "Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this token deals 1 damage to each opponent." Then if you control four or more Wizards, transform Kuja.
Flare Star — If a Wizard you control would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals double that damage instead.
Guide
Gameplan
Kuja churns out 0/1 Wizard tokens each end step that ping each opponent whenever you cast noncreature spells, turning your spellslinger shell into a death-by-a-thousand-cuts engine. Stack Wizards to flip into Trance Kuja, whose Flare Star doubles all Wizard damage, then unload a string of cheap instants and sorceries to deal massive simultaneous damage to the whole table. You play a controlling early game, build a Wizard board, and burst the table down in one explosive turn.
Strengths
- Builds its own army of damage-dealing Wizards for free every turn with no card investment
- Flare Star doubling makes even small pings lethal across the table
- Rewards a spell-dense deck that BR already excels at (burn, draw, removal)
- Damage hits all opponents at once, scaling naturally in multiplayer
Weaknesses
- Tokens are fragile 0/1s extremely vulnerable to board wipes and sweepers
- Slow to come online if Kuja is removed or you can't protect the token board
- Heavy reliance on the commander and casting volume—mana-light hands stall
- No built-in card advantage engine beyond the tokens themselves
- A single Wrath can reset your win condition entirely
Key Cards
- Guttersnipe — Another noncreature-spell pinger that stacks with the token triggers and doubles under Flare Star.
- Young Pyromancer — Generates extra bodies on every instant/sorcery, padding your Wizard count toward the flip and your damage output.
- Talrand, Sky Summoner — Adds to the Wizard count and floods the board with evasive Drakes off your spell-heavy deck.
- Thermo-Alchemist — A repeatable pinger that untaps on noncreature casts, doubling its damage under Trance Kuja.
- Reckless Fireweaver — Triggers off artifacts/tokens entering and stacks pinging damage with Flare Star doubling.
- Mizzix's Mastery — Lets you recast a big spell loaded with triggers to chain damage across the table.
- Underworld Breach — Recurs cheap spells to spike your noncreature-cast count for a single explosive ping turn.
Upgrade Path
Maximize cheap, repeatable noncreature spells and add more pingers (Firebrand Archer, Electrostatic Field) so each cast deals more table-wide damage. Add fast mana (Jeska's Will, rituals) and recursion (Underworld Breach, Past in Flames) to chain casts for a one-turn kill, and include protection like Deflecting Swat and graveyard recursion to recover from sweepers. Tighten the mana base with BR duals and run a few cheap board-wipe insurance pieces since your tokens are wrath-vulnerable.

Win Conditions
- ▸Death by a thousand pings: cast a flurry of cheap spells with multiple Wizard pingers on board
- ▸Flip to Trance Kuja and double a burn spell or mass ping for simultaneous lethal across the table
- ▸Go wide with Wizard/Drake tokens and swing for evasive damage
- ▸Loop cheap spells via Underworld Breach or recursion to trigger pingers repeatedly
Archetypes
- Spellslinger — Every noncreature spell triggers all your Wizard tokens and pingers for direct damage.
- Tokens — Kuja manufactures Wizard tokens each end step that double as a board and a damage engine.
- Burn/Aristocrats hybrid — Combines incidental pinging with direct burn, all amplified by Flare Star doubling for reach.
- Combo — Free spell loops plus doublers can deal lethal noncombat damage to the whole table in one turn.
