Ramos, Dragon Engine
The Commander
Flying
Whenever you cast a spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Ramos for each of that spell's colors.
Remove five +1/+1 counters from Ramos: Add . Activate only once each turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramos is a five-color goodstuff/combo commander that accumulates +1/+1 counters off multicolored spells and converts them into ten mana once per turn. You ramp into a big multicolor spell suite, build counters fast, then dump five counters for a massive WUBRG burst to fuel a game-ending spell or combo. Until then he's an evasive 6/6+ flyer that can also threaten commander damage.
Strengths
- Access to all five colors means best-in-class removal, ramp, tutors, and answers
- Built-in mana doubling effect that can power out huge spells or infinite combos
- Synergizes with +1/+1 counter and proliferate themes for explosive growth
- Evasive flier that doubles as a beatdown/voltron win condition
Weaknesses
- Needs to resolve and survive a turn before generating counters or mana
- Heavily reliant on the commander; repeated removal slows the engine badly
- Five-color manabase is expensive and can stumble on color screw
- Counter-based mana is symmetrical risk—shrinking Ramos leaves him vulnerable
Key Cards
- Doubling Season — Doubles the counters Ramos gains from spells, accelerating his WUBRG payout.
- Crystalline Crawler — Another counter-based mana rock that pairs with proliferate and infinite-mana loops.
- The Chain Veil — With enough mana from Ramos it enables planeswalker and activation loops.
- Cryptolith Rite — Turns Ramos's burst mana plans into a wide token board producing colored mana.
- Maze's End — A natural five-color land payoff that Ramos's mana and ramp can assemble for the alt-win.
- Fist of Suns — Lets you cast everything for WUBRG, perfectly matching Ramos's ten-mana output.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and rocks (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, signets, talismans) plus dual lands and fetches to stabilize the five-color base. Lean into the mana payoff with infinite combos (Crystalline Crawler/Chain Veil loops) and powerful tutors (Demonic, Vampiric, Mystical) to find your finisher consistently. Round out with proliferate effects and counter doublers like Doubling Season to reach the WUBRG threshold a turn earlier.
