Sliver Hivelord
The Commander
Sliver creatures you control have indestructible. (Damage and effects that say "destroy" don't destroy them.)
Guide
Gameplan
Assemble a Sliver hive across all five colors, using cheap Slivers to ramp, draw, and accumulate keywords, then snowball into an unstoppable board that swings for lethal. Hivelord's indestructible blanket lets you swing into bigger boards, play aggressive Stax/board wipes one-sidedly, and protect your investment. Most games end through overwhelming tribal beatdown or a single explosive combat step.
Strengths
- Indestructible makes your board immune to most wraths, edicts, and combat, letting you race wipes and even cast your own one-sidedly
- Slivers share keywords globally, so a few pieces (haste, flying, double strike, lifelink) make the whole team terrifying
- Five-color identity gives access to the best ramp, removal, tutors, and interaction in the format
- Cheap Sliver tutors (Sliver Overlord, Homing Sliver) and lords make the deck consistent and explosive
Weaknesses
- Heavily tribal and board-centric, so non-destroy answers like exile, -X/-X, bounce, and Cyclonic Rift blow you out
- Indestructible doesn't stop sacrifice effects, Toxic Deluge, or exile-based removal
- Five-color mana base is demanding and pricey; color-screw can stall starts
- Telegraphed threat that draws table-wide hate and removal aimed at the commander
- Slow without ramp early, vulnerable to fast combo before the hive comes online
Key Cards
- Sliver Overlord — Repeatable tutor that fetches any Sliver to your hand and can steal opposing Slivers, making the deck consistent.
- Sliver Queen — Turns mana into an endless stream of Sliver tokens that all gain indestructible and keywords.
- Heart Sliver — Grants haste to the whole team so freshly cast or recurred Slivers attack immediately.
- Gemhide Sliver — Turns every Sliver into a mana dork, fixing colors and ramping you toward overlord-fueled explosions.
- Cloudshredder Sliver — Gives the team both flying and haste, providing crucial evasion to push damage through clogged boards.
- Cryptolith Rite — Backup mana engine that lets your entire board tap for any color, enabling huge tutoring and combo turns.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the mana base with fetches, duals, shocks, and fast mana (Mana Crypt, Sol Ring, Chrome Mox) so you can deploy threats and protection faster. Add resilient tutors (Worldly Tutor, Sliver Overlord activations) and dedicated combo lines like Basal Sliver plus Sliver Queen for infinite tokens, and back the board with counterspells and protection (Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection) since exile and bounce are your real weaknesses.
