The Sixth Doctor
The Commander
Time Lord's Prerogative — Whenever you cast a historic spell, copy it, except the copy isn't legendary. This ability triggers only once each turn. (Artifacts, legendaries, and Sagas are historic. A copy of a permanent spell becomes a token.)
Guide
Gameplan
Cast historic spells (artifacts, legendaries, Sagas) to get a free copy each turn, doubling value engines, ramp, and token-making permanents. You snowball board presence and card advantage through repeatable copies, then convert the doubled value into overwhelming threats or a combo finish. Pair with a Doctor's Companion to expand your toolbox and color reach.
Strengths
- Free copy of a historic spell every turn generates relentless card and board advantage
- Huge artifact/legendary pool in Simic gives flexible, high-value targets
- Copies of permanent spells make tokens that dodge the legend rule entirely
- Synergizes with Doctor's Companion partner for deck-building flexibility
Weaknesses
- Trigger only fires once per turn, so it doesn't go infinite on its own
- Six-mana commander that does nothing the turn it lands without a follow-up
- Reliant on casting historic spells from hand—doesn't copy noncreature instants/sorceries unless they're artifacts/legendaries
- GU lacks efficient removal and struggles against fast combo and stax
Key Cards
- Wandering Archaic — A legendary artifact creature you can copy, and it taxes opponents' instants/sorceries.
- Esika's Chariot — A legendary artifact whose copy makes extra Cat tokens plus copies of your best creatures.
- Tezzeret's Gambit — Copying a phyrexian-mana proliferate effect isn't possible, but legendary planeswalkers like it scale fast—instead lean on Doubling Season effects.
- The Mana Rig — Legendary artifact ramp that nets two when copied, accelerating your historic chain.
- Sakashima of a Thousand Faces — Legendary clone that, when copied, multiplies your best permanents while ignoring the legend rule via tokens.
- Mystic Forge — Legendary-adjacent artifact card advantage; copying artifact draw engines refuels your hand.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize cheap, repeatable historic permanents (mana rocks, Sagas, legendary value creatures) so the trigger fires every turn for maximum tempo. Add Doubling Season, Anointed Procession, and clone effects like Sakashima to multiply the token copies, and pick a high-impact Doctor's Companion that gives you a backup wincon. Tighten the mana base with fast rocks and tutors like Fabricate or Whir of Invention to find your best historic spell consistently.

Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelm with doubled tokens and copied threats in combat
- ▸Snowball mana and card advantage into a game-ending bomb or X-spell
- ▸Assemble a copy-based combo with a doubled legendary or artifact engine
- ▸Beatdown with a Doctor's Companion voltron alongside the copy value
Archetypes
- Artifacts/Big Mana — Most artifacts are historic, so copying mana rocks and equipment snowballs your ramp and resources.
- Tokens — Copies of permanent spells enter as tokens, turning legendary creatures and artifacts into doubled board presence.
- Combo — Copying the right historic enabler can double mana or trigger loops with the right legendary engine pieces.
- Value/Goodstuff — The repeatable copy rewards a curve of high-impact legendary and artifact permanents.
