What it does

"Convert" isn't a standard Magic keyword—you're likely thinking of the Transform mechanic used by double-faced cards (DFCs). When a permanent "transforms," it turns over to its other face, keeping the same physical card but becoming a different permanent with its other side's characteristics. The older term "flip" actually refers to a separate mechanic (Kamigawa flip cards that rotate 180°), so don't confuse the two. The common rules trap: transforming isn't casting or entering the battlefield, so it doesn't trigger ETB effects or reset summoning sickness, counters, or auras/equipment. The permanent retains its existing tap status, counters, and attachments. Also, transforming front-to-back doesn't change its "this enters" history. In Commander, DFCs like Werewolves, MDFC lands/spells (Pathways, modal cards), and planeswalker-flip cards add flexibility. Note: MDFCs that are cast from a face don't "transform"—you simply choose which side to play.
