Why is this card good?
Llanowar Wastes is a premium dual land for Golgari decks, and its #137 ranking reflects how reliably it earns a slot.
The key advantage over taplands and most painlands' competition is that it always enters untapped and fixes both your colors immediately. The colorless option matters more than people think — early in the game, or when you only need generic mana, you tap it for
and take zero damage. In Commander you'll usually have life to spare, so the painless escape valve and untapped speed make it strictly smoother than a Golgari Guildgate or temple.
Play it in essentially any two-color BG deck — Meren, Korvold, The Gitrog Monster, aristocrats, +1/+1 counters, graveyard value piles. It's a no-brainer inclusion.
When to skip it: mono-color decks (obviously), three-plus color decks where you'd rather run lands fixing more of your wedge, and ultra-aggressive life-payment shells (fetch/shock/Necropotence) where the cumulative pings add up. Otherwise, just run it.

Like most lands, each land in this cycle is colorless. The damage dealt to you is dealt by a colorless source.
