Caesar, Legion's Emperor
The Commander
Whenever you attack, you may sacrifice another creature. When you do, choose two —
• Create two 1/1 red and white Soldier creature tokens with haste that are tapped and attacking.
• You draw a card and you lose 1 life.
• Caesar deals damage equal to the number of creature tokens you control to target opponent.
Guide
Gameplan
Caesar is a Mardu tokens-aristocrats commander who turns each attack into value by sacrificing a creature for two of three modes. You flood the board with tokens, sacrifice the weakest one every combat to make more soldiers, refill your hand, and burn opponents based on your token count. Win by going wide with anthems or repeatedly burning the table to death.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage every attack keeps your hand full
- Token generation snowballs your board and your burn damage
- The third mode is reach that closes games even through blockers
- Modal flexibility means you adapt to the situation each combat
Weaknesses
- Heavily reliant on having a fodder creature to sacrifice each attack
- Board wipes and edicts hit your wide token strategy hard
- Three-color manabase can be greedy and slow
- Caesar himself must attack to trigger, exposing him to removal
Key Cards
- Impact Tremors — Each Caesar token plus all your other token makers becomes incremental burn that ends games.
- Mangara, the Diplomat — Punishes opponents while your constant attacks and token swarm pressure the table.
- Anointed Procession — Doubles every token Caesar makes, exploding both your board width and your burn mode.
- Pitiless Plunderer — Turns each sacrifice into Treasure, fueling ramp and additional plays.
- Bitterblossom — A steady stream of fliers to sacrifice to Caesar every turn for free value.
- Goblin Bombardment — A free sac outlet that converts excess tokens into reliable direct damage.
Upgrade Path
Add token doublers (Anointed Procession, Mondrak) and free sac outlets to maximize Caesar's triggers and the burn mode. Tighten the manabase with fast lands, fetches, and Mardu duals, and add efficient anthems like Cathars' Crusade. Include resilience pieces such as Teferi's Protection and recursion (Reveillark, Sun Titan) to survive the board wipes that prey on token strategies.
