Dionus, Elvish Archdruid
The Commander
Elves you control have "Whenever this creature becomes tapped during your turn, untap it and put a +1/+1 counter on it. This ability triggers only once each turn."
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with cheap Elves, then use Dionus to turn every tap effect into permanent +1/+1 counters while generating absurd mana. You ramp explosively with Elvish mana dwarves, deploy a wide Elf army, and either swing with a huge counter-pumped board or funnel mana into a game-ending payoff.
Strengths
- Explosive mono-green ramp via Elf mana producers
- Repeatable untap means double mana and counters from tap-based Elves each turn
- Goes very wide and very tall simultaneously with counters
- Cheap commander that rebuilds boards quickly
Weaknesses
- Extremely vulnerable to board wipes given the go-wide plan
- No built-in card advantage or interaction in the command zone
- Dies to targeted removal slowing the engine
- Mono-green struggles to deal with fliers, enchantments, and protected combo decks
Key Cards
- Priest of Titania — Taps for mana scaling with Elves and untaps via Dionus for double mana plus a counter.
- Elvish Archdruid — Lord and mana engine that benefits from Dionus's untap to double its huge mana output.
- Heritage Druid — Lets you tap untapped Elves for mana, fueling explosive turns alongside Dionus untaps.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Classic overrun finisher that converts your wide, counter-buffed Elf board into lethal.
- Ezuri, Renegade Leader — Overrun payoff and regeneration shield that protects the team from spot removal and wins through damage.
- Quirion Ranger — Free untaps and Forest bounces combine with Dionus to retap Elves for repeated mana and counters.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and tutors like Sol Ring, Worldly Tutor, and Green Sun's Zenith to find pieces, plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Asceticism to survive wipes. Lean into mana-doubling synergies (Vorinclex, Doubling Season) and reliable closers (Craterhoof, Finale of Devastation) to convert explosive starts into kills before opponents stabilize.
