Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines
The Commander
If a permanent entering causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.
Permanents entering don't cause abilities of permanents your opponents control to trigger.
Guide
Gameplan
Elesh Norn doubles all your own enters-the-battlefield triggers while completely shutting off your opponents' ETB triggers, turning a blink/value engine into a soft-lock asymmetric advantage machine. You ramp into Norn, flicker your own creatures for doubled value, and grind opponents out of resources while their flicker, landfall, and ETB strategies sputter. Close games by snowballing token, lifegain, or stax payoffs into an overwhelming board.
Strengths
- Doubles every ETB and entering-related trigger you control, generating absurd value
- Hard-shuts off opponents' ETB triggers, blink decks, and many landfall/token engines
- Mono-white gives access to the best stax and taxes pieces
- Cheap at 5 mana with vigilance, so she blocks and attacks
Weaknesses
- Single removal target; mono-white struggles to recover after she dies
- No card draw or ramp built in—relies on the rest of the deck
- Doesn't help against decks that win via combat, spells, or attack triggers
- Color-screwed against fast combo with no interaction of her own
Key Cards
- Panharmonicon — Stacks with Norn to triple your ETB triggers for explosive value.
- Conjurer's Closet — Repeatable end-step blink that yields doubled ETB value every turn.
- Solemn Simulacrum — Doubled trigger ramps two lands and draws two cards on death-replacement loops.
- Cloudshift — Cheap instant-speed flicker to double a key ETB or dodge removal.
- Smothering Tithe — Premier white ramp/advantage engine that fuels your splashy ETB plays.
Upgrade Path
Add more flicker enablers (Conjurer's Closet, Eldrake's Brightglass-style blinkers, Charming Prince) plus the best mono-white ramp (Smothering Tithe, Sol Ring, mana rocks) and tutors like Enlightened Tutor to find Norn or Panharmonicon. Lean into asymmetric stax (Aven Mindcensor, Drannith Magistrate) to punish opponents harder, and include resilient finishers like Felidar Sovereign or a token-swarm anthem package to actually close games once the value engine takes over.

Win Conditions
- ▸Overwhelming board of doubled tokens swinging for lethal
- ▸Repeatable blink value engines burying opponents in card advantage
- ▸Stax-style lock denying opponents' engines until you grind them out
- ▸Big mana ETB payoffs (e.g., Myr Battlesphere, Avenger of Zendikar) flooding the board
Archetypes
- Blink — She doubles every flickered creature's ETB while opponents' blink does nothing.
- Stax — Asymmetrically denying opponents' ETB triggers is itself a powerful lock piece.
- Tokens — Token-makers like Hero of Bladehold and populate effects trigger twice under her.
- Value/Midrange — Doubling Solemn, Wall of Omens, and similar creatures grinds out card and board advantage.
