Avacyn, Angel of Hope
The Commander
Flying, vigilance, indestructible
Other permanents you control have indestructible.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp into Avacyn early, then leverage her blanket indestructible to make your board and lands immune to most removal and wraths. From there you grind out the game with a resilient board of fatties, mass-destruction asymmetry, or commander damage from a 8/8 flyer. You're the durable beatdown deck that wins through attrition and one-sided board wipes.
Strengths
- Total immunity to destruction-based removal and board wipes for your whole board, including lands
- Avacyn herself is a hard-to-answer 8/8 flying vigilance indestructible threat
- Enables one-sided 'destroy all' effects that wreck opponents while you keep everything
- Mono-white gives access to the best stax, taxes, and protection pieces
Weaknesses
- Vulnerable to exile, -X/-X, sacrifice, bounce, and 'can't block' effects that ignore indestructible
- Eight mana is slow; the deck does little until Avacyn lands
- Mono-white struggles with card advantage and ramp compared to other colors
- Removing Avacyn collapses your defensive umbrella, so the deck is commander-dependent
Key Cards
- Catastrophe — With Avacyn out, blow up all lands or creatures one-sidedly to lock opponents out.
- Armageddon — Strand opponents with no lands while your permanents and mana base survive.
- Cathars' Crusade — Turns your indestructible token swarm into an unstoppable, ever-growing army.
- Smothering Tithe — Critical mono-white ramp and card advantage to actually reach eight mana.
- Boros Charm — Gives you indestructible before Avacyn lands and dodges exile-heavy wraths.
- Teferi's Protection — Phases everything out to survive the exile and sacrifice effects Avacyn can't stop.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Smothering Tithe, Mana Vault, Mishra's Factory-style rocks) so Avacyn lands by turn 4-6. Add protection that covers her gaps—Teferi's Protection, Heroic Intervention isn't white but Flawless Maneuver and Unbreakable Formation help—plus exile-based interaction like Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile. Lean into asymmetric Armageddon/Catastrophe lines with strong stax (Smokestack, Winter Orb) to convert the indestructible umbrella into a true soft lock.
