Guide
Gameplan
Henrika Domnathi is a mono-black midrange/aristocrats commander that grinds value off her front side (forced sacrifice and card draw) before flipping into Henrika, Infernal Seer to become a flying, deathtouch, lifelink beater with a built-in pump anthem. You curve out with disruption and creatures, use the combat trigger to edict opponents and draw, then transform and pressure life totals while abusing the keyword-matters pump.
Strengths
- Built-in repeatable removal via the forced sacrifice mode disrupts go-wide and reanimator decks
- Card advantage in mono-black helps refuel without splashing colors
- Flips into an evasive, hard-hitting commander with deathtouch and lifelink for safe blocks and life swings
- Cheap four-mana commander that can come down early and start generating value immediately
Weaknesses
- The sacrifice mode lets opponents choose their worst creature, so it's weak removal against decks with tokens or chaff
- Mono-black struggles with enchantments and resilient artifact-based strategies
- Slow clock compared to dedicated combo or voltron decks; can be outraced
- Relies on staying on the battlefield to flip and accrue value, vulnerable to repeated removal
Key Cards
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Gives Henrika protection and untaps lands for explosive turns while her flying body carries equipment well.
- Whispersilk Cloak — Makes her unblockable and shroud, protecting your value engine and ensuring combat damage lands.
- Phyrexian Reclamation — Recurs Henrika or sacrifice fodder cheaply, letting you re-cast her if she's killed.
- Bolas's Citadel — Turns excess life from lifelink into a powerful card-advantage engine in mono-black.
- Grave Pact — Doubles down on the sacrifice theme, punishing the whole table whenever your creatures die.
- Cabal Coffers — Ramps mono-black into double-spelling and powering the Infernal Seer pump ability repeatedly.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and ramp (Sol Ring, Cabal Coffers, Nykthos) to deploy Henrika early and power her pump and X-spell payoffs. Lean into protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, Whispersilk Cloak) and recursion (Phyrexian Reclamation, Reanimate) so she keeps flipping and attacking. Cap the deck with a clean finish like Torment of Hailfire, a tutor package (Demonic/Vampiric Tutor), and quality interaction to close grindy games.

Win Conditions
- ▸Commander damage and beats from the evasive flipped Henrika with equipment and pump
- ▸Grinding the table out of creatures via repeated edicts and aristocrats drains
- ▸Mono-black finishers like Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate fueled by big mana
- ▸Life-loss engines (Bolas's Citadel, big drains) backed by lifelink to stay safe
Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Her edict mode and death triggers pair naturally with sacrifice payoffs and recursion.
- Midrange Value — Front-side card draw and removal grind out attrition wars in mono-black.
- Voltron — The flipped side's evasion plus deathtouch and lifelink makes her a strong equipment carrier.
- Control — Repeatable edicts and black's hand disruption let you grind opponents out of resources.
