Jaxis, the Troublemaker
The Commander
,
, Discard a card: Create a token that's a copy of another target creature you control. It gains haste and "When this token dies, draw a card." Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step. Activate only as a sorcery.
Blitz (If you cast this spell for its blitz cost, it gains haste and "When this creature dies, draw a card." Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
Guide
Gameplan
Jaxis turns your best creatures into hasty, expendable copies that swing for value and replace themselves with a card when they die. You ramp into a powerful ETB or attack creature, then use Jaxis's ability each turn to copy it for an immediate effect, profiting off enters-the-battlefield triggers, big swings, and the built-in card draw. Win by snowballing repeated ETB triggers and combat damage before the temporary tokens sacrifice at end step.
Strengths
- Repeatable, on-command token copies abuse strong ETB and attack triggers every turn
- Built-in card advantage from the 'when this dies' draw on every copy and blitz creature
- Mono-red consistency makes ramp, rituals, and tutors easy to assemble
- Flexible discard outlet enables reanimator and graveyard synergies
Weaknesses
- Color-bound: no access to blue interaction, white removal, or green ramp efficiency
- Tokens are temporary, so you must rebuild value every turn and can't durdle
- Heavily commander-reliant; repeated Jaxis removal stalls the engine
- Discard cost can be card-disadvantageous without a way to use the discarded card
Key Cards
- Combat Celebrant — Copy it with Jaxis for a free extra combat step each turn, turning ETB-heavy boards into lethal alpha strikes.
- Dockside Extortionist — Copying it generates explosive Treasure ramp, fueling more activations and big plays.
- Terror of the Peaks — A copy machine for direct damage—every other token entering deals damage, closing games fast.
- Magmatic Galleon — Loots and rewards your discard-and-sacrifice loops with Treasures and card flow.
- Wheel of Misfortune — Refills your hand to feed Jaxis's discard cost while disrupting opponents.
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Generates mana from casting copies and blitz creatures, snowballing your turn.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and rituals (Jeska's Will, Mana Geyser, Treasure makers) to power out Jaxis activations alongside big payoffs, and prioritize creatures whose ETB or attack triggers scale—Etali, Terror of the Peaks, Combat Celebrant. Improve interaction with red's best removal (Chaos Warp, Abrade) and protect Jaxis with haste/recursion, while tightening the curve so you can copy something impactful every single turn.

Archetypes
- Tokens/ETB Value — Jaxis manufactures copies on demand to re-trigger powerful enters-the-battlefield abilities.
- Aggro/Combat — Hasty copies attack the turn they're made, enabling repeated extra-combat and damage swings.
- Reanimator — The discard cost pitches fat threats to graveyard recursion before copying them back into play.
- Spellslinger/Storm-lite — Treasure and ritual payoffs from copied creatures let you chain spells in a single explosive turn.
