Lathliss, Dragon Queen
The Commander
Flying
Whenever another nontoken Dragon you control enters, create a 5/5 red Dragon creature token with flying.
: Dragons you control get +1/+0 until end of turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp aggressively into a swarm of Dragons, turning every nontoken Dragon you cast into two threats thanks to Lathliss's token-making trigger. You build a wide, evasive board of fliers and close games by pumping the whole team with Lathliss's firebreathing ability or one big Dragon-fueled alpha strike.
Strengths
- Built-in card advantage and board presence—every Dragon you play effectively comes with a free 5/5 flier
- All your threats fly, making it hard for grounded decks to block or race
- Mono-red gives access to the best ramp rocks and rituals to deploy fat Dragons early
- Lathliss's pump ability can end games out of nowhere with a wide board
Weaknesses
- Mono-red struggles with card draw and has no access to counterspells or recursion
- Extremely weak to board wipes—dumping all your Dragons into a Wrath sets you back hard
- High average mana value means clunky hands without enough ramp
- Removal-heavy or stax tables can grind you out since you lean on creatures for everything
Key Cards
- Lathliss, Dragon Queen — The engine—doubles your Dragon count and acts as a finisher with her +1/+0 pump.
- Dragon Tempest — Gives all Dragons haste and deals damage equal to flying creatures' count when they enter, turning your swarm into burn.
- Scourge of Valkas — Each Dragon that enters pings for damage equal to your Dragon count, converting Lathliss tokens into a board-wide burn finisher.
- Crucible of Fire — Gives all your Dragons +3/+3, pushing your evasive board into lethal range.
- Terror of the Peaks — Deals damage whenever a creature enters, and stacks beautifully with all the tokens Lathliss makes.
- Utvara Hellkite — Creates a 6/6 Dragon for every Dragon that attacks, exploding your board alongside Lathliss's enter triggers.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize fast mana and Dragon-specific ramp like Sol Ring, Mana Vault, Dragonspeaker Shaman, and Dragonlord's Servant to deploy threats ahead of schedule. Add resilience with Heroic Intervention effects (or red's Bloodthirsty Blade-style protection) and recover from wipes via Kindred Discovery and Outpost Siege for card advantage. To push power further, lean into the burn package (Scourge of Valkas, Dragon Tempest, Terror of the Peaks) so your tokens kill the table without needing combat.

Win Conditions
- ▸Alpha strike with a wide board of flying Dragons buffed by Lathliss's +1/+0 or anthems
- ▸Burn finishers like Scourge of Valkas or Dragon Tempest triggering off each Dragon ETB

Archetypes
- Dragon Tribal — Lathliss rewards stacking nontoken Dragons by doubling them and pumping the whole team.
- Tokens / Go-Wide — Her trigger and anthem effects flood the board with 5/5 fliers that overwhelm opponents.
- Aggro / Beatdown — Evasive Dragons plus firebreathing make this a fast, aggressive evasive-damage deck.
