Moraug, Fury of Akoum
The Commander
Each creature you control gets +1/+0 for each time it has attacked this turn.
Landfall — Whenever a land you control enters, if it's your main phase, there's an additional combat phase after this phase. At the beginning of that combat, untap all creatures you control.
Guide
Gameplan
Drop lands during your main phase to trigger extra combat phases, untapping your team and pumping each creature with Moraug's +1/+0 per attack to overwhelm the table in a single explosive turn. You ramp aggressively, hold extra lands to deploy when you have a board, then chain combats for lethal commander damage or wide swings.
Strengths
- Generates multiple combat phases that snowball into one-turn kills
- Built-in team pump scales hard with each additional attack
- Mono-red gives access to cheap rituals, impulse draw, and land-fetch effects
- Can punch through with a single big creature or a wide token board
Weaknesses
- No protection in the command zone—board wipes and removal set you back hard
- Relies on having creatures and lands to deploy at the right time
- Mono-red struggles with card advantage and dealing with enchantments/artifacts
- Needs Moraug plus a board to do anything, making it telegraphed and disruptable
Key Cards
- Lotus Cobra — Turns landfall into mana, letting you cast extra lands and creatures to chain combats.
- Druid Class — Grants extra land drops, multiplying Moraug's combat triggers each main phase.
- Scute Swarm — Floods the board with creatures that all get pumped and attack across every combat phase.
- Crucible of Worlds — Replays fetchlands and sacrificed lands for repeatable landfall and extra combats.
- Ramunap Excavator — A creature-based Crucible that recurs lands to keep triggering additional combats.
- Terramorphic Expanse — Cheap fetch effects let you trigger landfall on demand for an extra combat at instant value.
Upgrade Path
Add more extra-land-drop enablers (Exploration, Wayward Swordtooth, Azusa, Burgeoning) and recursion (Crucible of Worlds, Ramunap Excavator) to maximize combat chains. Include evasion and trample (Rancor, Whispersilk Cloak, Berserkers' Onslaught) and ramp/rituals to deploy Moraug plus lands the same turn. Tighten the curve and add protection like Heroic Intervention to survive interaction before your alpha strike.
