Kroxa, Titan of Death's Hunger
The Commander
When Kroxa enters, sacrifice it unless it escaped.
Whenever Kroxa enters or attacks, each opponent discards a card, then each opponent who didn't discard a nonland card this way loses 3 life.
Escape—, Exile five other cards from your graveyard. (You may cast this card from your graveyard for its escape cost.)
Guide
Gameplan
Kroxa grinds opponents out of resources and life with repeatable discard and 3-damage triggers, recurring from the graveyard via escape whenever it dies or gets removed. You play a hyper-efficient Rakdos midrange/sacrifice shell that empties hands, fuels the yard, and escapes Kroxa every turn for relentless attrition. Win through repeated triggers, beatdown, and incidental drain or reanimator payoffs.
Strengths
- Extremely resilient: escapes from the graveyard, dodging most single-target removal and board wipes
- Cheap, recurring discard and 3-life loss applies constant pressure across all opponents
- Strong in attrition/grindy metas where hand disruption snowballs
- Only 2 mana to first cast, then a repeatable engine that fills the graveyard itself
Weaknesses
- Graveyard hate (Rest in Peace, Bojuka Bog) cripples the escape engine
- Discard scales poorly against empty hands and top-deck-focused decks in the late game
- Self-mills/draws hard but can run out of escape fuel without graveyard refills
- Low raw power compared to combo decks; can be outraced by faster strategies
Key Cards
- Sheoldred, the Apocalypse — Punishes the card draw you force and rewards your own draws, accelerating the life-loss clock.
- Dauthi Voidwalker — Unblockable evasion plus a powerful steal effect while also providing graveyard interaction.
- Underworld Breach — Turns your loaded graveyard into a combo and resource engine, supercharging escape recursion.
- Bolas's Citadel — Lets you dump your hand and fuel the yard while drawing off the top, synergizing with life-loss themes.
- Anje Falkenrath — Loots aggressively to fill the graveyard fast, enabling earlier and repeated escapes.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Jeweled Lotus) and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find Kroxa enablers and finishers faster. Build a tighter Underworld Breach package with Lion's Eye Diamond and cheap rituals for a deterministic combo kill. Include premium graveyard fillers and recursion (Faithless Looting, Cabal Ritual, Entomb) plus interaction to protect your engine from graveyard hate.

Win Conditions

- ▸Sheoldred/Aristocrats incremental drain across the table
- ▸Underworld Breach combo lines for explosive damage or value

Archetypes
- Aristocrats — Kroxa loves dying and returning, pairing with sacrifice payoffs and recursion engines.
- Reanimator — Heavy self-mill and graveyard density support cheating big threats back alongside escape.
- Control — Repeatable discard and removal let you strip hands and grind opponents into the dirt.
- Spellslinger — Cheap instants/sorceries feed the graveyard and enable Underworld Breach loops with Kroxa.
