Marwyn, the Nurturer
The Commander
Whenever another Elf you control enters, put a +1/+1 counter on Marwyn.
: Add an amount of
equal to Marwyn's power.
Guide
Gameplan
Marwyn snowballs into a massive mana engine: flood the board with Elves to pile +1/+1 counters on her, then tap her for explosive green mana to dump your hand, draw cards, and overwhelm the table. You win through a big Elf army or a single mana-fueled X-spell or combo. Turn to turn you ramp aggressively, protect Marwyn, and convert her mana into board presence.
Strengths
- Generates absurd amounts of mana very early in mono-green
- Elf tribal has deep, cheap support and redundancy
- Grows herself organically just by playing your gameplan
- Mono-color means consistent, untaxed mana base
Weaknesses
- All-in on the commander; spot removal sets you back hard
- Mono-green has limited interaction and no counterspells
- Summoning sickness/Marwyn dying resets her power to base
- Vulnerable to board wipes that erase your Elf engine
Key Cards
- Sword of the Paruns — Untaps Marwyn for repeatable infinite-style mana with the right enablers.
- Umbral Mantle — Untaps Marwyn cheaply, and with high power generates arbitrarily large mana.
- Staff of Domination — Untaps Marwyn and converts the mana flood into card draw and a win.
- Priest of Titania — A second Elf-count mana dork that scales alongside your tribal board.
- Heroic Intervention — Cheap protection for Marwyn and your Elves against removal and wraths.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — The classic mana sink that turns a wide Elf board into lethal damage.
Upgrade Path
Add untap enablers (Umbral Mantle, Sword of the Paruns, Magewright's Stone) plus a payoff like Walking Ballista or Staff of Domination to assemble true infinite-mana wins. Layer in counter-doublers (Doubling Season, Hardened Scales) and proliferate to accelerate Marwyn's power, and prioritize protection (Heroic Intervention, Vines of Vastwood, Heroic Intervention) since she's the linchpin. Finally, tighten tutors like Worldly Tutor and Green Sun's Zenith to find your combo or Craterhoof reliably.
