Michiko Konda, Truth Seeker
The Commander
Whenever a source an opponent controls deals damage to you, that player sacrifices a permanent of their choice.
Guide
Gameplan
Michiko is a mono-white pillowfort/punisher commander: any time an opponent's source damages you, they sacrifice a permanent. You build a defensive board, force opponents to attack into you (or each other), and grind their boards to dust while you assemble a stax-style lock or a critical-mass win. The game plan is to make combat painful for everyone but you, then close with whatever overwhelming advantage white can muster.
Strengths
- Punishes any combat or burn aimed at you, deterring aggression and turning opponents' attacks into Edicts
- Mono-white consistency with strong stax, taxation, and lifegain tools
- Can weaponize forced damage to systematically dismantle a single opponent's board
- Excellent at the political layer — opponents are incentivized to attack each other instead of you
Weaknesses
- Mono-white card advantage is historically poor, so you can run out of gas
- Slow and reactive — does little proactively if opponents simply don't attack you
- Vulnerable to noncombat, non-damage removal and counters (sacrifice triggers don't stop board wipes against you)
- Damage-based loss only triggers off opponents' sources, so it ignores card draw, mill, and infinite-mana combos
Key Cards
- Stuffy Doll — You can ping yourself with its ability to repeatedly force a chosen opponent to sacrifice permanents at will.
- Spiteful Sliver — Redirects combat damage so opponents trigger Michiko while taking damage themselves.
- Boros Reckoner — Redirect its damage to make opponents sacrifice while you build a damage engine (in white-compatible builds via Stuffy synergies).
- Ghostly Prison — Forces opponents to pay to attack, slowing aggression while Michiko deters it further.
- Smothering Tithe — Solves mono-white's mana and card-advantage problems, fueling your defensive engine.
- Darksteel Plate — Keeps Michiko indestructible so your repeatable Edict commander stays online.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana and card advantage (Smothering Tithe, Esper Sentinel, Land Tax, Mind's Eye) to fix mono-white's weaknesses, and lean into self-ping enablers like Stuffy Doll plus indestructibility (Darksteel Plate, Shield of Kaldra) to make the Edict engine repeatable on demand. Tighten the stax package (Thalia, Aven Mindcensor, Archon of Emeria) and add a fast finisher so you actually close once the table is locked, since Michiko herself doesn't end games quickly.

Win Conditions
- ▸Grind opponents out of permanents with repeated forced sacrifices, then win with leftover threats
- ▸Voltron commander damage on an indestructible, protected Michiko
- ▸Resolve a mono-white finisher like Approach of the Second Sun or an overrun token alpha strike
- ▸Lock the table with stax and win at leisure with any board advantage
Archetypes
- Pillowfort/Control — Michiko punishes attackers, letting you stack taxation and deterrents to lock down combat.
- Stax — Forced sacrifices plus white's resource-denial pieces grind opponents' boards and ramp into oblivion.
- Punisher/Damage Redirection — Cards that deal damage to you on your terms turn Michiko into a repeatable Edict machine against a target.
- Voltron — Suit up an indestructible Michiko and let her combat damage trigger while you race with commander damage.
