Obeka, Brute Chronologist
The Commander
: The player whose turn it is may end the turn. (Exile all spells and abilities from the stack. The player whose turn it is discards down to their maximum hand size. Damage wears off, and "this turn" and "until end of turn" effects end.)
Guide
Gameplan
Obeka lets you end the turn at instant speed, skipping cleanup, end steps, and (critically) your upkeep triggers after you've already gotten value. Build around enters/upkeep abilities and 'until end of turn' downsides you want to erase, tapping Obeka to fast-forward past your own painful costs while keeping the upside. You grind incremental advantage in Grixis colors until you assemble a combo or overwhelm the table.
Strengths
- Repeatable, instant-speed turn ending dodges your own upkeep costs and 'sacrifice' clauses
- Fizzles opponents' spells/abilities on the stack as a defensive trick
- Grixis access to tutors, ramp, and the best card advantage
- Enables degenerate loops with mana rocks and chaos/upkeep payoffs
Weaknesses
- Obeka is a tap-and-pay engine that dies easily and needs to survive a turn cycle
- Many synergy pieces are individually weak without Obeka on board
- Ending your own turn loses your draw step and remaining plays if used greedily
- Color identity has poor enchantment/artifact removal compared to other shards
Key Cards
- Smothering Tithe — You skip the downside of cumulative-upkeep style payments while still banking treasures from opponents' draws.
- Braids, Cabal Minion — End your turn before her sacrifice upkeep triggers hit you, while opponents still suffer it.
- Mikaeus, the Unhallowed — A staple combo enabler in mono-effects builds and great with sacrifice loops Obeka supports.
- Ad Nauseam — Cast it, then end the turn to keep all the cards without ever needing to lose to life loss timing.
- Final Fortune — Take an extra turn, then tap Obeka to end the turn before its 'lose the game' delayed trigger resolves.
- Glacial Chasm — Skip its cumulative upkeep with Obeka while keeping the fog-like protection online.
Upgrade Path
Lean into the 'lose the game at end of turn' extra-turn spells (Final Fortune, Last Chance, Glorious End) since Obeka turns them into clean ramp. Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, signets) and tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find Obeka and protect her with counterspells or haste enablers. Trim cute one-off upkeep synergies for tight combo lines and a robust interaction suite so you can win the turn you stabilize.

Win Conditions
- ▸Repeated extra turns via Final Fortune/Last Chance with no downside, then beating down
- ▸Aristocrats/Mikaeus-style sacrifice loops for infinite drain
- ▸Out-grinding the table with Ad Nauseam and Smothering Tithe card/mana advantage
- ▸Assembling a stax/punisher lock that only hurts opponents
Archetypes
- Upkeep Abuse — Obeka erases your own upkeep/cumulative-upkeep payments while leaving opponents stuck with theirs.
- Combo — She enables loops with extra-turn spells like Final Fortune and any 'lose the game at end of turn' card.
- Control — Tapping to end the turn counters spells and abilities on the stack as a Grixis tempo tool.
- Chaos/Stax — Symmetrical punisher effects become one-sided when you end the turn before they tax you.
