Rosie Cotton of South Lane
The Commander
When Rosie Cotton enters, create a Food token. (It's an artifact with ",
, Sacrifice this token: You gain 3 life.")
Whenever you create a token, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control other than Rosie Cotton.
Guide
Gameplan
Rosie turns every token you make into a +1/+1 counter, so you flood the board with tokens and pile counters onto a chosen creature (or spread them around) to overwhelm opponents. You build a wide, mono-white go-wide board while a designated beater grows huge, closing games through combat or counter-based combos.
Strengths
- Mono-white token generation is deep and resilient, fueling Rosie's trigger every turn
- Cheap 3-mana commander that immediately makes a token (Food) on entry
- Synergizes with both counters-matter and tokens-matter payoffs simultaneously
- Hard to interact with profitably — value comes from many small triggers
Weaknesses
- Mono-white means limited card draw and ramp
- Reliant on creature combat, vulnerable to board wipes resetting your token engine
- Counter targeting requires another creature in play to function
- Slow to close without a payoff; can be out-paced by faster combo decks
Key Cards
- Welcoming Vampire — Refills your hand every time you make small tokens, fixing white's card draw problem.
- Anduril, Flame of the West — Makes a Human token each combat, triggering Rosie and growing your team turn after turn.
- Cathars' Crusade — Stacks with Rosie so every token both buffs your whole board and triggers extra counters.
- Ozolith, the Shattered Spire — Adds an extra counter to your first counter each turn and protects counters from wipes.
- Skullclamp — Draws two cards off any 1-toughness token, turning your token engine into a card engine.
- Brimaz, King of Oreskos — Pumps out Cat tokens repeatedly, each one feeding a Rosie counter.
Upgrade Path
Add efficient repeatable token makers (Mondrak, Glory Dominus and Anointed Procession to double output) plus proliferate effects to multiply Rosie's counters. Shore up mono-white's weaknesses with draw engines like Esper Sentinel, Bennie Bracks, and Smothering Tithe for ramp, then finish with a payoff like Craterhoof Behemoth or an Overwhelming Stampede effect to convert the wide-and-tall board into a one-shot kill.

Win Conditions
- ▸Wide token board buffed by Cathars' Crusade or overrun effects for a lethal alpha strike
- ▸A single counter-loaded beater with trample or evasion going the distance
- ▸Token-based combos (e.g., Skullclamp card advantage into an alpha strike)
- ▸Anthem-and-counter overwhelm grinding opponents out of blockers
Archetypes
- Tokens — Rosie rewards every token created, making go-wide strategies double as counter engines.
- Counters (+1/+1) — Each token converts into a permanent counter, supporting counter-payoff cards and proliferate.
- Aristocrats — Food and creature tokens fuel sacrifice loops while still triggering Rosie on creation.
- Voltron — Funnel every counter onto one creature to build a lethal, evasive threat.
