Guide
Gameplan
Tevesh Szat is an aristocrats and card-advantage engine on a planeswalker chassis: you +2 to make Thrull fodder, then +1 to sacrifice creatures for two cards each turn, fueling a sacrifice-and-recur loop. As a Partner commander he wants a second commander to share the burden, and his ultimate can steal opponents' commanders to close games. You grind value while building toward a combo or overwhelming board.
Strengths
- Repeatable, unconditional card draw that refills your hand every turn
- Generates its own sacrifice fodder via Thrull tokens
- Partner lets you pair into a second color/strategy for flexibility
- Doubles as a token-producing engine and a sacrifice outlet for combos
- Can be cast from the command zone and recast for ongoing advantage
Weaknesses
- Mono-black on his own means no interaction outside removal and discard
- Fragile to planeswalker hate, combat damage, and being attacked down
- The +1 requires sacrificing creatures, so empty boards stall your draw
- The -10 ultimate is very slow and rarely the actual win
- Reliant on protecting a permanent that draws every opponent's attention
Key Cards
- Pitiless Plunderer — Turns every creature you sacrifice to Tevesh into treasure, generating mana to recast and snowball.
- Dockside Extortionist — Pairs with sacrifice loops and treasure synergies to explode your mana for combo turns.
- Skullclamp — Stacks with Tevesh's draw, turning 0/1 Thrulls into card-draw machines.
- Gravecrawler — A recurring sacrifice fodder body that you can replay endlessly to feed the +1 draw.
- Phyrexian Altar — A free sacrifice outlet and mana source that enables combo loops alongside Tevesh's draw.
- Ashnod's Altar — Converts your Thrull tokens into mana, fueling explosive turns and combos.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Jet Medallion, treasure makers) to deploy and protect Tevesh ahead of curve, then build a tight aristocrats package with Blood Artist effects and a recursion engine like Gravecrawler plus an altar for a true combo finish. Choose a Partner that adds interaction or a second axis—Thrasios for card filtering, Tymna for extra draw, or Reyhan for counters—and include planeswalker protection like Norn's Annex or proactive board defense.
