Veyran, Voice of Duality
The Commander
Magecraft — Whenever you cast or copy an instant or sorcery spell, Veyran gets +1/+1 until end of turn.
If you casting or copying an instant or sorcery spell causes a triggered ability of a permanent you control to trigger, that ability triggers an additional time.
Guide
Gameplan
Veyran is a spellslinger payoff that doubles all your magecraft and cast/copy triggers, turning a single cantrip into massive value or a lethal burst. Deploy cheap card-draw and ramp, then chain instants/sorceries (and copy effects) to snowball storm-style triggers, grow Veyran, and burn or mill the table out. You win by going off in a single explosive turn fueled by rituals, copy spells, and trigger doublers.
Strengths
- Doubles every magecraft and spell-based permanent trigger, generating absurd value per spell
- Cheap 3-mana commander that's easy to recast and acts as a Voltron threat
- Combos with copy effects and storm payoffs for explosive single-turn wins
- Deep blue/red card pool of cantrips, rituals, and tutors for consistency
Weaknesses
- Fragile 2/2 body that dies to nearly any removal, stalling the engine
- Heavily relies on the commander being in play, vulnerable to repeated removal/tax
- Can run out of gas without strong card advantage engines
- Light on creatures and blockers, weak to aggressive boardstates
Key Cards
- Archmage Emeritus — Second magecraft draw engine that, with Veyran, draws two cards per spell.
- Young Pyromancer — Each instant/sorcery makes two Elemental tokens with Veyran doubling the trigger.
- Murktide Regent — Grows enormous off your graveyard of cheap spells as a hard-to-remove finisher.
- Storm-Kiln Artist — Generates double Treasures per spell, fueling explosive ritual-style chains.
- Birgi, God of Storytelling — Refunds red mana on each cast, enabling long spell chains alongside Veyran.
- Aetherflux Reservoir — Magecraft and copy triggers gain massive life to fire off a lethal blast.
Upgrade Path
Add fast mana (Mana Crypt, Jeweled Lotus, Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter) and tighter tutors (Mystical Tutor, Merchant Scroll) to assemble combos faster. Lean into infinite engines like Dualcaster Mage + Twinflame or Storm-Kiln Artist + Reiterate to close games abruptly, and add cheap interaction (Swan Song, Pyroblast) plus extra magecraft payoffs to maximize each cast. Lower the curve and prioritize cantrips so every spell advances both value and the combo.
