Zopandrel, Hunger Dominus
The Commander
Reach
At the beginning of each combat, double the power and toughness of each creature you control until end of turn.
, Sacrifice two other creatures: Put an indestructible counter on Zopandrel. (
can be paid with either
or 2 life.)
Guide
Gameplan
Flood the board with creatures, then let Zopandrel double everyone's power and toughness each combat to swing for lethal commander damage and trample beats. You ramp aggressively into the 7-drop, deploy fatties or token swarms, and overrun the table in one or two combat steps.
Strengths
- Doubling P/T at every combat (yours and others') makes even small creatures lethal threats
- Mono-green ramp lets you cast Zopandrel early and keep refueling
- Pairs explosively with trample, double-strike, and extra-combat effects
- Built-in indestructibility activation protects Zopandrel from board wipes and combat
Weaknesses
- Single-target removal and exile shut off the doubling engine instantly
- No evasion baseline — gets chump-blocked without trample enablers
- Seven mana and green's weakness to interaction make it slow to come online
- Toughness doubling can backfire, keeping otherwise-dead creatures alive for opponents
Key Cards
- Pathbreaker Ibex — Stacks another power boost and overrun, turning the doubled board into a guaranteed kill.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Adds trample and a massive pump that compounds with Zopandrel's doubling for one-shot kills.
- Triumph of the Hordes — Grants trample and infect so doubled power needs only a few creatures for poison lethal.
- Cazur, Ruthless Stalker — A mono-green-castable extra-combat enabler that lets you double power twice in a turn.
- Heroic Intervention — Protects your board from wraths so the doubling payoff actually connects.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize trample and evasion enablers (Craterhoof Behemoth, Pathbreaker Ibex, Rancor) so doubled power can't be chumped, plus protection like Heroic Intervention and Vivien, Champion of the Wilds for flash/hexproof. Add fast ramp (Sol Ring, Nature's Lore, Three Visits, mana dorks) to land Zopandrel by turn 4-5, and tutors like Green Sun's Zenith and Worldly Tutor to assemble the kill. Cap the curve with extra-combat effects (Aggravated Assault, Moraug) to convert a single doubled swing into a table-ending turn.

The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Alpha strike with doubled power plus an overrun effect like Craterhoof or Pathbreaker Ibex
- ▸Commander damage from a doubled, trampling Zopandrel
- ▸Infect/poison via Triumph of the Hordes on a doubled board
- ▸Extra combat steps doubling power repeatedly for overwhelming swings
Archetypes
- Stompy/Beatdown — Doubling power on big green creatures closes games through raw combat damage.
- Tokens — Doubling a wide board of tokens converts go-wide swarms into lethal alpha strikes.
- Aristocrats — The sacrifice ability and disposable creatures feed value engines while protecting the commander.
- +1/+1 Counters — Doubling already-buffed counter creatures produces enormous evasive threats.
