Why is this card good?
Glacial Fortress is the gold-standard untapped dual for any Azorius (or U/W splash) deck. The conditional untapped clause is the key: in a two-color or three-color deck running enough basics, it enters untapped the vast majority of the time, making it functionally a painless dual land with no life loss and no drawback.
Why it's good: Commander is a slower format, but mana consistency still matters enormously. Checklands like this fix colors cleanly and stay relevant in every stage of the game. They pair beautifully with fetches and basics, and unlike shocklands or painlands, they never cost you life.
Decks that want it: essentially every U/W deck — control, flicker/blink, artifacts, tokens, stax. Any commander in Azorius colors with a healthy basic-land count.
When to skip it: in heavily greedy 4-5 color manabases where your basics are scarce, it often enters tapped — there, fetch-fixed duals or Triomes serve better. Also unnecessary in mono-color decks.
