Aminatou, Veil Piercer
The Commander
At the beginning of your upkeep, surveil 2. (Look at the top two cards of your library, then put any number of them into your graveyard and the rest on top of your library in any order.)
Each enchantment card in your hand has miracle. Its miracle cost is equal to its mana cost reduced by . (You may cast a card for its miracle cost when you draw it if it's the first card you drew this turn.)
Guide
Gameplan
Aminatou turns enchantments into cheap miracle spells, surveiling each upkeep to set up the top of your library so the first card drawn each turn is a discounted enchantment. You build a grindy Esper enchantress board, generating value engines and card advantage, then close with overwhelming enchantment synergy or a combo finish.
Strengths
- Massive mana discounts on enchantments (often four-mana off), letting you slam expensive enchantments early
- Surveil 2 every upkeep filters draws, fuels graveyard recursion, and stacks miracle hits
- Esper colors give the best removal, board wipes, and tutors in the format
- Card advantage stacks fast with enchantress effects on top of the discount
Weaknesses
- Miracle only triggers on the first card drawn each turn, so timing and instant-speed plays matter
- Enchantment-heavy boards are vulnerable to mass enchantment removal and artifact/enchantment wipes
- The discount is wasted on cheap enchantments (MV 4 or less get little to no benefit)
- Commander does little to protect itself and dies to spot removal easily
- Surveil mills you, which can backfire without graveyard recursion
Key Cards
- Smothering Tithe — A high-impact enchantment whose miracle discount makes it land far ahead of curve for explosive ramp.
- Doubling Season — Expensive build-around enchantment that becomes trivially cheap and snowballs your whole strategy.
- Argothian Enchantress — Draws a card off every enchantment you cast, exploding card advantage alongside the discounts.
- Enchantress's Presence — Another enchantress draw engine that turns each cheap miracle into raw cards.
- Sphere of Safety — With many enchantments out, it locks opponents from attacking and buys time for your engine.
- Sigil of the Empty Throne — Pumps out angels each time you cast an enchantment, converting your miracles into a clock.
Upgrade Path
Lean into expensive, high-impact enchantments (Smothering Tithe, Doubling Season, Mirari's Wake, Land Tax-style engines) so the miracle discount actually matters, and add enchantment tutors like Idyllic Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, and Academy Rector to find your best pieces. Add graveyard payoffs and recursion (Sun Titan, Replenish, Sevinne's Reclamation) to capitalize on surveil milling, and tighten the curve with fast mana and protection like Swords to Plowshares and counterspells to keep Aminatou alive.
