Aragorn, King of Gondor
The Commander
Vigilance, lifelink
When Aragorn enters, you become the monarch.
Whenever Aragorn attacks, up to one target creature can't block this turn. If you're the monarch, creatures can't block this turn.
Guide
Gameplan
Cast Aragorn, become the monarch, and start swinging. Each attack makes blockers irrelevant—while you hold the monarchy your whole team becomes unblockable, turning any board into lethal damage and drawing you an extra card each turn. You play a Boros/Jeskai aggro-tempo deck that protects the crown and overwhelms with go-wide tokens or a few big threats.
Strengths
- Built-in monarch engine gives card advantage that aggressive RUW decks usually lack
- Team-wide unblockable while monarch makes alpha strikes nearly impossible to defend
- Vigilance + lifelink lets Aragorn attack and still hold the crown defensively
- Cheap, fast clock—four-mana commander that immediately threatens lethal swings
- Synergizes with extra combats and anthem effects for explosive damage
Weaknesses
- Losing the monarchy to a single connecting attacker shuts off the team-unblockable clause
- Commander-centric: removal or repeated board wipes stall you badly
- No built-in protection or evasion for Aragorn himself
- Three-color manabase can be greedy and inconsistent without fixing
- Vulnerable to fogs, mass blockers, and defensive lifegain decks racing back
Key Cards
- Skullclamp — Token deck staple that turns expendable creatures into a relentless card-draw engine.
- Aurelia, the Warleader — Extra combat step means a second monarch-fueled unblockable swing for double damage.
- Sword of Feast and Famine — Protection plus an untap to keep attacking and defending, fueling more aggression.
- Iroas, God of Victory — Backup unblockable-style aggression and indestructibility for your attackers.
- Smothering Tithe — Ramp and treasure generation to power a greedy three-color aggressive board.
- Embercleave — Cheap finisher that turns one unblockable attacker into a one-shot kill.
Upgrade Path
Add more evasion-independent payoffs and protection: equipment like Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots keep Aragorn alive, while extra-combat enablers (Aurelia, Combat Celebrant, Moraug) multiply your guaranteed-unblockable swings. Tighten the manabase with fast lands, Smothering Tithe, and signets, and lean into anthems (Cathars' Crusade, Anointed Procession for tokens) so every unblockable attack closes the game faster.
