Arthur, Marigold Knight
The Commander
Haste
Whenever Arthur and at least one other creature attack, look at the top six cards of your library. You may put a creature card from among them onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. Return that creature to its owner's hand at end of combat.
Guide
Gameplan
Arthur is an aggressive Jeskai go-wide commander that cheats a creature into play tapped and attacking every combat. Attack with Arthur plus at least one other creature, dig six deep, and slam a big attacker for free, then rebuy its enter-the-battlefield trigger when it bounces at end of combat. You snowball the board with extra bodies, ETB value, and combat damage until opponents are overwhelmed.
Strengths
- Free attacker and card advantage every single combat with no setup cost
- Built-in ETB recursion engine since the cheated creature returns to hand
- Haste means Arthur attacks the turn he lands
- Jeskai access to extra combats, anthems, and the best removal/protection
Weaknesses
- Heavily dependent on Arthur sticking and attacking, so removal stalls you
- Needs at least one other attacker, so empty boards or sweepers shut it off
- High creature-count builds can flood and run light on interaction
- Five mana and combat-reliant makes it slow against fast combo decks
Key Cards
- Aurelia, the Warleader — An extra combat means two free creature cheats and double ETB triggers per turn.
- Combat Celebrant — Exerts for an additional combat phase to double Arthur's trigger cheaply.
- Avenger of Zendikar — A massive ETB payoff you cheat in and rebuy each combat for floods of Plant tokens.
- Craterhoof Behemoth — Cheating it in tapped and attacking turns a wide board into a one-shot kill.
- Ravager Wurm — Re-castable beater whose fight/ramp ETB recurs every combat off the bounce.
- Esika's Chariot — Makes the extra attacker for Arthur's trigger and snowballs the token plan.
Upgrade Path
Lean into reliable extra-combat enablers (Aurelia, Combat Celebrant, Moraug) and high-impact creatures you'll always be happy to flip off the trigger, while trimming small token-makers that dilute your hits. Add efficient protection like Heroic Intervention and Deflecting Swat so Arthur survives, plus haste/anthem support and a Craterhoof-style finisher. Tighten the curve so you're consistently attacking by turn five and stacking ETB value every combat.

Win Conditions

- ▸Craterhoof Behemoth or Overrun-style alpha strikes
- ▸Repeated extra combats fueling lethal swings
- ▸Cheating in big ETB threats to grind out advantage then close
Archetypes
- Aggro Midrange — Arthur reliably adds a hasty attacker and value each combat to pressure the table.
- Tokens / Go-Wide — Easily provides the second attacker and benefits from anthems and Craterhoof finishers.
- Blink / ETB Value — The cheated creature returns to hand, letting you replay powerful ETB effects repeatedly.
- Extra Combats — Each additional combat step retriggers Arthur for more free creatures and damage.
