Whenever you cast a Spirit or Arcane spell, target opponent exiles a card from their hand.
Kyoki is a mono-black discard engine: build a deck stuffed with Spirits and Arcane spells (especially cheap splice-fodder) so that each cast strips a card from an opponent's hand. You grind the table out of resources, then close with a beatdown swarm of Spirits, recursive discard loops, or a hand-empty wincon. The plan is attrition first, lethal damage or a punisher payoff second.
Repeatable, targeted hand disruption that hits choice cards rather than random discard
Mono-black gives the format's best tutors, recursion, and ramp (Cabal Coffers, etc.)
Splice onto Arcane lets one spell trigger Kyoki multiple times for value
Can lock a single opponent out of their game plan piece by piece
Six-mana commander that does nothing the turn it lands if removed immediately
Effect only hits one opponent at a time, slow against three foes
Lacks a fast clock—can durdle while opponents combo off
Mono-black means no counterspells or interaction with the stack
Spirit/Arcane tribe is small and aging, limiting deck quality
With repeated discard triggers it quickly activates to drain and mill opponents to death.
Lean into splice-onto-Arcane spells and cheap Spirits so each card you cast generates multiple Kyoki triggers, and add fast mana (Dark Ritual, Sol Ring, Cabal Coffers + Urborg) to deploy your six-drop and follow up immediately. Tighten the wincon by adding hard discard payoffs (Bloodchief Ascension, Liliana's Caress) and reanimation packages, and include protection like Lightning Greaves so Kyoki survives to grind. At higher power, pivot toward a lock backed by tutors (Demonic Tutor, Vampiric Tutor) to find your punisher or combo finish reliably.
