O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami
The Commander
Flying, trample
Whenever O-Kagachi deals combat damage to a player, if that player attacked you during their last turn, exile target nonland permanent that player controls.
Guide
Gameplan
O-Kagachi is a five-color Voltron/punisher commander that turns aggression against you into removal: a 6/6 flying trample beater that exiles a nonland permanent whenever it connects with a player who attacked you last turn. You ramp into the six-drop, suit it up or goad opponents into swinging at you, then crack back to strip their best permanents and chunk life totals. With all five colors open you can also lean into a goodstuff control or stax shell while O-Kagachi closes games as evasive, hard-to-answer commander damage.
Strengths
- Five-color identity gives access to every removal, ramp, and tutor in the format.
- Flying + trample makes commander damage reliable and hard to chump.
- Exile-on-damage is repeatable, color-agnostic removal that hits planeswalkers, enchantments, and artifacts.
- Goad and incentive effects let you weaponize the trigger every turn.
- Punishes aggressive pods and creates a deterrent against attacking you.
Weaknesses
- The exile trigger only fires if that specific player attacked you last turn—useless against passive opponents.
- Six mana and color-intensive; mana base and ramp must be excellent.
- Removal-heavy commander damage relies on connecting, so blockers and fog effects shut it down.
- No evasion help means a single flying blocker or removal spell stalls your plan.
- Color identity tempts overloaded, unfocused 'goodstuff' builds.
Key Cards
- Disrupt Decorum — Goads every opponent's board so they're forced to attack you, arming O-Kagachi's exile trigger.
- Marchesa, Resolute Monarch — Repeatable goad on attack reliably turns opponents into valid exile targets.
- Grand Abolisher — Protects O-Kagachi and your combat step from instant-speed interaction on your turn.
- Swiftfoot Boots — Hexproof and haste keep your commander attacking and safe from spot removal.
- Crackling Doom — Five-color flexibility lets you play the best edicts and removal to clear blockers.
- Karmic Justice — Doubles down on the punisher theme, deterring opponents from removing your stuff.
- Maze of Ith — Lets you survive incoming attacks while still validating the revenge trigger next combat.
Upgrade Path
Tighten the mana base with fetch/dual lands, fast mana like Sol Ring and Mana Crystals, and a strong dork package to consistently cast a six-drop. Add evasion and protection (Lightning Greaves, Whispersilk Cloak, Sword of Feast and Famine) plus reliable goad sources to guarantee the trigger fires, and trim win-more goodstuff for focused removal, card advantage, and a lean backup combo to avoid relying solely on combat damage.

- Punisher/Goad — Goad effects force opponents to attack you, turning every connection into free exile removal.
