Urdnan, Dromoka Warrior
The Commander
When Urdnan enters, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.
Whenever you attack, target attacking creature with a +1/+1 counter on it gains first strike until end of turn. If that creature has two or more +1/+1 counters on it, it gains double strike until end of turn instead.
Guide
Gameplan
Urdnan is a cheap mono-white +1/+1 counters aggro/voltron engine: drop a creature, load it with counters, then swing with first strike or double strike to crash through blockers and races. You curve out with efficient counter-payoffs, use anthems and proliferate to grow a wide-or-tall board, and let the attack trigger turn one threat into a lethal hit.
Strengths
- Cheap two-mana commander that enables aggression immediately and recurs cheaply if killed
- Double strike on a counter-stacked threat produces enormous, often lethal, combat damage
- Synergizes with the deep mono-white +1/+1 counter and proliferate support package
- Strong with go-wide token and counter strategies thanks to anthems and protection
Weaknesses
- Mono-white means limited card advantage and ramp compared to other colors
- Vulnerable to board wipes since the strategy commits creatures to the battlefield
- The attack trigger only buffs one creature per combat, capping single-target reach
- Relies on connecting in combat; flyers, deathtouch blockers, and fogs disrupt the plan
Key Cards
- The Ozolith — Banks counters when your buffed creatures die, letting you immediately rebuild a double-strike threat.
- Hardened Scales — Amplifies every counter you place, getting creatures to the two-counter double-strike threshold faster.
- Felidar Retreat — Generates tokens or distributes counters on every land drop, fueling both wide and tall plans.
- Inspiring Call — Protects your counter creatures from removal and draws a card per counter creature, a perfect insurance spell.
- Cathars' Crusade — Floods the board with counters every time a creature enters, turning Urdnan's double strike into a finisher.
- Skullclamp — Solves mono-white's card draw problem by sacrificing small counter creatures for two cards each.
Upgrade Path
Add proliferate engines (Evolution Sage, Conclave Mentor) and counter doublers to hit the double-strike threshold reliably, then tune the manabase with Ancient Tomb, Cavern of Souls, and fast white rocks like Smothering Tithe for ramp and card advantage. Include protection (Heroic Intervention's white analog Flawless Maneuver, Teferi's Protection) and evasion (Whispersilk Cloak, Rogue's Passage) to ensure your double-strike threat connects through wipes and blockers.

Win Conditions
- ▸Connecting with a double-strike, counter-stacked creature for huge or commander-damage kills
- ▸Overwhelming the table with an anthem-pumped wide board of counter creatures

Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Urdnan rewards stacking counters with first strike and double strike, the core counters payoff.
- Voltron — Loading counters and equipment on one creature with double strike delivers commander-damage kills.
- Go-Wide Tokens — Anthems plus Urdnan's per-attack buff let a wide board push lethal through one boosted attacker.
- Aggro — A two-mana enabler with evasive-feeling first/double strike supports fast, proactive white beatdown.
