Yuna, Grand Summoner
The Commander
Grand Summon — : Add one mana of any color. When you next cast a creature spell this turn, that creature enters with two additional +1/+1 counters on it.
Whenever another permanent you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, if it had one or more counters on it, you may put that number of +1/+1 counters on target creature.
Guide
Gameplan
Yuna ramps each turn while supersizing your creatures, then turns your board into a snowballing pile of +1/+1 counters that survives removal. Tap her for mana to fuel a big creature that enters with extra counters, and use her death-trigger to recycle counters onto a new threat whenever a counter-bearing permanent dies. You win by going wide-and-tall with counters, often funneling them onto a single trampling or evasive haymaker.
Strengths
- Built-in ramp every turn that also acts as a payoff, making her a mana source and an anthem in one card
- Counter-recursion ability turns board wipes and sacrifice into value instead of losses
- Bant colors give access to the best counter support, proliferate, and protection
- Naturally resilient strategy—removing one creature just moves the counters elsewhere
Weaknesses
- Slow to start; her mana ability requires tapping her and she's only relevant if you have creatures to cast
- Relies on counters being on permanents, so non-counter decks get little from the death trigger
- Vulnerable to counter-hate (Vampire Hexmage, Fading Hope-style bounce) and exile removal that bypasses the trigger
- No inherent evasion or protection—the deck needs to add a way to actually close games
Key Cards
- Hardened Scales — Multiplies every counter she generates, supercharging both her cast bonus and the death-trigger payoff.
- Doubling Season — Doubles the counters creatures enter with and the counters moved by her ability, making each play explosive.
- Branching Evolution — Cheap green doubler that stacks with Hardened Scales for absurd counter output.
- Inspiring Call — Draws cards equal to your counter creatures and protects them from a wipe, retaining your engine.
- Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider — Doubles your counters while halving opponents', a brutal asymmetric multiplier for the whole deck.
- The Ozolith — Catches counters from dying creatures so nothing is wasted, perfectly complementing Yuna's death trigger.
Upgrade Path
Add counter doublers (Hardened Scales, Branching Evolution, Vorinclex) and proliferate engines to make every trigger snowball faster. Include sacrifice outlets and fragile-but-counter-heavy creatures so you can intentionally fire her death trigger, plus The Ozolith to bank counters. Finish with a trample/overrun payoff (Craterhoof Behemoth, Pathbreaker Ibex) and protection like Heroic Intervention to keep the engine online.
Core Cards
The most-played cards for this commander, built from aggregated deck data (the Mythic Graph). Build public decks to seed it.
Win Conditions
- ▸Beat down with massively oversized, trampling creatures stacked with counters
- ▸Funnel all counters onto an evasive creature for lethal commander/combat damage
- ▸Go wide with counter-boosted tokens and finish with an overrun effect like Craterhoof Behemoth
- ▸Proliferate-fueled infinite or near-infinite counter loops to dominate the board
Archetypes
- +1/+1 Counters — Her cast bonus and death trigger both generate and move counters, making her the ideal counters payoff.
- Aristocrats / Sacrifice — Sacrificing counter-laden permanents intentionally triggers her ability to relocate counters and value.
- Voltron — Funnel every dying creature's counters onto one evasive threat for a fast commander-damage or trample kill.
- Ramp Midrange — Her any-color mana smooths a big-creature Bant goodstuff build curving into oversized threats.
