Zacama, Primal Calamity
The Commander
Vigilance, reach, trample
When Zacama enters, if you cast it, untap all lands you control.
: Zacama deals 3 damage to target creature.
: Destroy target artifact or enchantment.
: You gain 3 life.
Guide
Gameplan
Ramp aggressively into Zacama, who refunds nine mana when hard-cast, letting you immediately activate her abilities the turn she lands. From there she's a one-card engine that picks off creatures, blows up artifacts/enchantments, and gains life while you grind value or assemble a mana-loop kill. Win by overwhelming with big Gruul-Selesnya creatures or by going infinite with mana doublers.
Strengths
- Casting her untaps your lands, effectively making her cost much less and enabling explosive same-turn activations
- Built-in repeatable removal, artifact/enchantment destruction, and lifegain make her a self-contained toolbox
- Vigilance, reach, and trample on a 9/9 means she attacks, blocks, and pressures fliers all at once
- Pairs with untap/mana-doubler effects to create infinite mana and infinite damage combos
Weaknesses
- Nine mana is a huge investment; without ramp she arrives far too late
- Extremely vulnerable to removal—if she dies the deck loses its main engine and value
- No evasion beyond trample makes her relatively easy to chump-block
- Color-intensive activated abilities can clog you if your mana base isn't well-balanced
Key Cards
- Cryptolith Rite — Turns your creatures into any-color mana, ramping into Zacama and fueling her costly abilities.
- Itlimoc, Cradle of the Sun — Produces massive green mana to both cast Zacama and loop her activations.
- Sword of the Animist — Accelerates land count so the untap-on-cast trigger generates a bigger mana refund.
- Aggravated Assault — With enough mana from Zacama's untap and doublers, enables extra combat steps for lethal swings.
- Mana Echoes — Combos with token makers and Zacama to generate explosive or infinite colorless mana.
Upgrade Path
Prioritize fast ramp and mana doublers—Mana Reflection, Zhur-Taa Ancient, and Selvala, Heart of the Wilds—to consistently power her out and unlock combos. Add untap enablers like Sword of Feast and Famine or Nature's Will alongside Aggravated Assault for infinite combat, and slot in protection (Heroic Intervention, Lightning Greaves) so she sticks. Tighten the mana base with fast lands and dorks since her abilities demand all three colors.

ping for infinite damage to all creatures or faces.
